The only thing I can think of why it is still around is as an incentive to getting and Indestructible jewel onto an Ethereal item. The current iteration of Median has done away with some of the filler interactions and mechanics such as the purchasing and use of TP and ID scrolls/tomes, and I feel that item repair and item durability is in the same kind of category. I figure there is some merit in discussing this topic with how current iterations of Median are shaping up, and I'll give my view on how Durability looks to me in the game now.
